The EU RoHS Directive (21002/95/EC and amendments) restricts the use of six hazardous substances. Many other substances have been previously restricted in various regions around the world; and many additional substances are expected to be restricted in the next few years.

- Several countries, states have been creating legislation restricting additional substances over the next couple years.
